Longtime Bengals, Cardinals Wide Receiver Struggled to Make an Impact in Final Season
Green Says He Was 'Honored' to Play in NFL, Thanks Fans for Support
Former Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals wide receiver AJ Green announced his retirement from the NFL on Instagram on Tuesday. The 34-year-old played 11 seasons in the league, all but one with the Bengals.
Green was a seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro selection with the Bengals. He led the NFL in receiving yards in 2013 and was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2011.
Green signed with the Cardinals in 2021 but struggled to make an impact in his lone season with the team. He had just 54 receptions for 848 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games.
In his retirement announcement, Green thanked his fans, teammates, and coaches for their support over the years. He said he was "honored" to play in the NFL and that he will cherish the memories he made.
