Wimmer: "It still feels surreal!"
The Austrian number one led his team to a surprising victory in the Davis Cup against Serbia
After a great Davis Cup weekend, Jürgen Wimmer is still overwhelmed by the emotions. In an interview with tennisnet.com, the 23-year-old talks about the victory over Serbia, his personal development and his goals for the future.
tennisnet.com: Jürgen, you won the decisive match in the Davis Cup against Serbia. How do you feel a few days later?
Jürgen Wimmer: The emotions are still bubbling up. It was an incredible experience, especially since I was allowed to play the decisive match. I can hardly describe what that means to me. It still feels a bit surreal.
tennisnet.com: How did the team celebrate the victory?
Wimmer: On Sunday evening we had dinner together. Of course, the joy was huge. We didn't drink too much alcohol because we still had a long journey ahead of us. But we enjoyed the evening together.
tennisnet.com: What was the key to success against Serbia, who were clearly the favourites on paper?
Wimmer: We knew that we had to give 100 percent and that every match could be crucial. We also knew that we had a good team and that we could beat anyone. In the end, we did it.
tennisnet.com: You played a strong tournament. What do you attribute your good form to
Wimmer: I have been working hard for a long time and I am slowly getting better. I am also gaining more and more experience at the highest level. I think that was the key to success this weekend.
tennisnet.com: What are your goals for the future?
Wimmer: I want to continue to develop and improve. I want to play even better and win more titles. I also want to represent Austria more often in the Davis Cup. I am very proud to play for my country.
